Kundmala, Maval 15 June 2025| A tragic incident has occurred in the Kundmala area of Pune’s Maval taluka. A major accident was reported after the collapse of an old bridge over the Indrayani River near Talegaon Dabhade city. It is feared that around 25 to 30 tourists may have been swept away in the river’s strong current.
Local MLA Sunil Shelke, speaking to the news channel TV9 Marathi, confirmed the death of six individuals, highlighting the gravity of the incident.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot immediately, launching search and rescue operations. Fire brigade personnel, police forces, disaster response teams, and residents are making every possible effort to save those trapped in the river’s flow. Eyewitnesses also reported that children were among the tourists present at the time of the accident.
Heavy rainfall has been lashing the Maval region for the past two days, resulting in a significant rise in the water level of the Indrayani River. As it was Sunday, many tourists had visited the popular Kundmala site for an outing. During this time, the old bridge suddenly collapsed, leading to this unfortunate incident.
The tragedy has caused a wave of shock and sorrow in the area. The families of the deceased are devastated, and several tourists are still feared missing. Disaster management authorities are working at full capacity, and a high-level inquiry has reportedly been initiated.
Meanwhile, citizens are demanding immediate inspection and repair or closure of old and unsafe bridges to prevent such incidents in the future.
